Prof Burns’ clinical and research interests focus on reducing pain and disability in children and adults with neurological and musculoskeletal disorders.
His training is in podiatry [BAppSc(Pod)Hons, University Medal], biomechanics [PhD], paediatric neuropathy [NHMRC Australian Clinical Research Fellow], neurogenetics [American-Australian Fulbright Scholar] and rehabilitation [NHMRC Career Development Fellow].
Prof Burns’ is Professor of Allied Health (Paediatrics) at the University of Sydney and Sydney Children's Hospitals Network, and Director of the Paediatric Gait Analysis Service of New South Wales at the Children's Hospital at Westmead. In this capacity, he is invested in facilitating and supporting allied health clinicians to integrate research into clinical practice.
Prof. Burns’ also a visiting Senior Principal Research Fellow at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute in Melbourne working on the development and translation of best practice guidelines to improve healthcare for individuals with neuromuscular disorders.
